in the name of the rose

Chédigny

Chédigny was the first village in France to receive both the “Remarkable Garden” label and the “Golden Flower” award, the highest distinction for towns and villages in bloom. Over the years, the villagers have transformed this peaceful village into a lush garden where 1,000 rose bushes and more than 4,000 perennials flourish. Also worth visiting are the Vicarage Garden and the wetland meadow trail.

Roses both as an emblem and a passion

Savour the poetic charm of Chédigny’s narrow streets teeming with both cascading and climbing rosebushes that adorn the facades of the pretty houses bringing colour to the whole village from spring onwards. The walk is a delightful break between visiting castles. In Chédigny life is rosy! A true paradise for rose enthusiasts with an impressive collection of more than 350 different varieties to be admired!

The Presbytery Garden

Within the walls of the presbytery, you will find hundreds of rare perennial and annual plants, fruit trees, a magnificent tree, medicinal plants growing in the apothecary square and in the ‘carré bouquetier’ a vegetable garden featuring ancient or forgotten vegetables.

A truly picturesque village for creative artists

Inspired by its charm, many artists and craftspeople have settled in Chédigny. Photographers, artists, ceramists, sculptors, authors and actors all open their doors to the public during village festivals and will gladly show you their creations. Two cultural spaces, le Pressoir and l'Arbre, give artists the chance to showcase their work. Since 2023, a temporary boutique has been open from Easter to September, welcoming local artists and craftspeople.

The village also comes alive in July with the festival “de Bouche et de Blues” and again in September with the festival “Regard Baroque”.
